The Ultimate Lazy Girl Power Move: Legs Up the Wall
As you probably know by now, especially if you’ve been to one of my classes, I love mindful movement.
When the body is fried, the energy is low, and you’re somehow both over AND underwhelmed (seriously, how does that even happen?), sometimes the only thing left to do… is move.
But here’s the twist - as I always say in class, mindful movement isn’t always about moving.
Wait, what? How does that even work?
Well, sometimes mindful movement, especially when our brains and bodies are fried, is simply being still. Being present with your heartbeat. Feeling your breath. Letting the body reset while you do absolutely nothing.
And today, we’re going to do that - with our legs elevated.
Yep. You heard me.
This is what I want you to try tonight:
You’re going to get on the ground, and you’re going to put your feet up on the wall.
Yes, that same wall you’ve spent half the week asking the kids to stop making grubby handprints on.
Sit down. Legs up. Lean back. Breathe.
It’s so simple, it almost feels ridiculous — but trust me, it works.
Here’s what’s happening while you’re doing absolutely nothing:
1. Swelling and circulation:
Leg elevation helps blood and lymph flow back to your heart. Translation: tired, heavy, puffy legs suddenly feel lighter. Your body’s drainage system gets a little turbo boost. You might even notice your feet stop feeling like bricks.
2. Your nervous system takes a holiday:
This pose flips on your parasympathetic nervous system, your body’s “rest and digest” mode. Heart rate slows, muscles relax, stress hormones throw up their hands, and your nervous system waves a tiny white flag.
3. Lower back relief:
If your back has been carrying groceries, toddlers, or existential dread, elevating your legs gently decompresses your lower spine. Your back sighs. Your shoulders sigh. You sigh. Everyone wins. Champagne for all!
4. Creative bonus:
Funny how this works - do nothing, and suddenly your brain decides to show up! Random ideas, solutions you weren’t expecting, maybe even a tiny spark of inspiration. Legs up the wall is basically a lazy girl incubator for genius.
Tonight, get your feet up on the wall and stay put for 5–20 minutes.
Your nervous system, and your sanity, will thank you.
And of course, let me know how you go - I’d love to hear ❤️
